British Shorthair Kittens For Sale

British Shorthair Nest is a state-registered breeder specialising in raising purebred British Shorthair kittens. We have proudly owned and bred British Shorthairs for over 7 years. The British Shorthair is one of the oldest and most beloved cat breeds in the UK, known for its plush, dense coat and distinctively rounded features. Often affectionately referred to as the “teddy bear” of the cat world, this breed is renowned for its calm and affectionate nature. British Shorthairs are well-suited to family life and are especially good with children and other pets. They tend to be independent yet loyal, forming strong bonds with their owners while still enjoying their own space. Though not typically lap cats, they love being nearby and are known for their quiet companionship. These charming cats are intelligent, gentle, and undemanding—making them an excellent choice for first-time cat owners. Their easy-going temperament and low-maintenance grooming needs add to their appeal, although their plush coats do benefit from regular brushing to keep them in top condition. British Shorthairs are not only beautiful with their broad chests, stocky builds, and round, expressive eyes, but they also have delightful personalities. They enjoy playtime but are not overly energetic, making them ideal for both relaxed households and busier homes alike. With an average lifespan of 12–20 years, British Shorthairs are long-term companions who bring calm, charm, and character to any home. We understand that not everyone may be familiar with the British Shorthair breed, but many are drawn to their iconic looks and loving personalities. About British Shorthair

The British Shorthair cat has a rich history that dates back nearly two thousand years, with roots believed to trace back to domestic cats brought to Britain by the Romans. These early felines likely interbred with native wildcats, eventually evolving into the sturdy and distinctively plush British Shorthair we know today. Originally prized for their hunting abilities on farms and in homes, they have since become cherished companions known for their calm and affectionate temperament.

The British Shorthair is a medium to large cat with a solid, muscular build and a distinctive round face. Known for their dense, plush coat and iconic “teddy bear” appearance, they typically weigh between 4–8 kilograms, with males generally being larger than females. This breed is easygoing and intelligent, making them relatively simple to train for basic tasks and household routines. Their independent yet affectionate nature makes them a perfect fit for various households, including those with children or other pets.

British Shorthairs are not overly vocal or demanding, but they will let their presence be known if something is amiss or if they seek attention. While they enjoy being near their people, they are not typically lap cats—instead, they prefer to sit beside you or quietly observe from a nearby perch. With proper socialisation from a young age, they become friendly and well-mannered cats that integrate easily into family life.

They generally get along well with other pets, although some males may exhibit territorial behaviour towards other male cats. Early socialisation and neutering often help mitigate this tendency. British Shorthairs are also well-suited for indoor living and adapt easily to calm, structured environments.

The breed requires regular grooming, particularly during the spring and autumn moulting seasons when they shed more heavily. While their coat is relatively low-maintenance compared to long-haired breeds, a weekly brushing will help keep their fur in top condition and reduce shedding around the home. British Shorthairs shown in cat shows are typically presented with minimal grooming to maintain their natural appearance, a practice also suitable for pet owners who want to preserve the breed’s classic charm.

OUR STORY

Thank you for visiting our website.
My name is Larry Windsor, and together with my family, I run British Shorthair Nest—a small, dedicated cattery specialising in the beautiful and affectionate British Shorthair breed. Since 2015, we’ve been raising these wonderful kittens with love, care, and a true passion for the breed. Our journey began from a place of genuine love for animals. My wife and I have always been pet lovers, and it felt natural to share the joy we experienced with British Shorthairs by helping other families find their perfect feline companion. My personal story with this breed began one magical Christmas when I was ten years old. That year, my parents surprised me with a British Shorthair kitten I named Oliver. Oliver was more than a pet he became my confidant, my comfort, and my constant companion. He always seemed to sense when I needed cheering up, and I often found myself talking to him as though he truly understood every word. He was gentle, loyal, and deeply intuitive the kind of presence that stays with you for life. Years later, at university, I met my wife. We became close friends, and she quickly fell in love with Oliver as well. In time, she convinced her parents to get her a British Shorthair too, and our cats soon became as inseparable as we were. Sadly, we lost Oliver in our final year at university, but by then, the breed had become part of our shared story. When we got married, it felt only natural to continue that story together. With our love for British Shorthairs and the memories they gave us, we founded British Shorthair Nest a cattery built on care, experience, and a deep respect for the breed. Today, we raise our two children and our kittens on a peaceful 3-acre property, giving them all the space and attention they need to thrive. We focus on early socialisation, proper nutrition, and thoughtful breeding to ensure every kitten is healthy, well-mannered, and ready to become a loving member of your family. If you’re looking for a calm, intelligent, affectionate companion, you’re in the right place. Our British Shorthairs are more than just pets they’re family.
